Human Rights Education for Schools in the Luhansk Region

The aim of the project was to introduce and create awareness about human rights, democratic values, and active citizenship in the educational sphere in Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine. The project addressed relations between all the participants of the educational process and draws their attention to the principles of human rights and children’s rights in their respective schools. The main activities were an educational course for school staff, parents and students; Model UN simulation game for high school children and an educational conference for school staff. Through workshops, assessments and trainings, the project sought to improve the quality of education in the conflict area. The intervention has first and foremost strengthened 166 teachers and school administration from 5 selected schools, 90 students, and 25 parents, who have been trained in human rights, active citizenship, and public engagement.

The project was a joint effort between the Danish Helsinki Committee and Vostok-SOS and it was financed by CISU.
